Character initial sketches
My characters are Alec and Nina. Truthfully, I always knew I struggle with character design as I feel I cannot draw faces, therefore I quite struggled to figure the characters out and postponed them indefinitely. However, while working on the animatic, I chose a character design direction without realizing.
Alec is based on pictures of my friends and brother as little boys. I wanted him to be bubbly, innocent and clumsy, but lovable. What says a lot about him are his clothes, they say a lot about their entire family in fact. Growing up, it was completely normal to wear clothes from older siblings or cousins, no matter if they fit you or not. He is also packed with warm layers; the way parents coddle their children. He is blonde with brown eyes and around 1,2 m.
Nina is delicate, warm and loving. Nina is also the name of my grandmother; I based the character on old pictures of her as well as other references. Unfortunately, the pictures of her I have are either of too bad quality or not digital, so I could not include them in my mood boards. She is responsible and protective. She has brown hair, blue eyes and approximately 1,4m.
